Using Select to collect data but checkbox for searching
March 08, 2010, 12:50:29 pm
HI - I have hit this several times and may have asked before, if so apologies - but we often end up setting up multichoice fields to be Select as that is what we want for collecting the data - eg which electorate does someone live in - but when we come to use Adv Search we often want to return results for several of those options - but I don't think this is currently possible.

Can anyone shed light on what will be required to make this possible - either as a one-off fix, or as a more fundamental change - the latter presumably requiring something like a checkbox on the Custom Field Edit form alongside "Is this Field Searchable?" so that we can specify 'provide options as checkbox in search forms'?

thanks

Might be able to model this similar to a Date search, which can be searched by date range (db field: is_search_range)

assuming that the "search range" of a select / radio is a checkbox element is not a far stretch (IMO). You can potentially modify the code to do so and follow the same steps as a date custom field
