Membership Batch Update by Profile to change Start Date
March 08, 2010, 09:04:34 pm
Hi - clients preference is to have memberships all start on Jan 1st, Apr 1st, Jul 1st and Sep 1st - any one who joins in the quarter preceding these dates should have their year membership kick off on the above dates.

So easy enough to handle for backend - Join Date is whatever, and we just put the Start Date ahead to the 1st of the next quarter - as far as i can see it works fine.

But for Online Memberships I guess it will require some code. Had been hoping that Batch Update would get us there. Ie find Memberships that  joined eg this week - reset Start Date to 1st of next quarter.

But just found that no 'core' membership fields are available for Batch Update - for reasons I can understand - and canvassed here http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,4745.0.html

SO - can we potentially get Start Date to show in Batch Update or do we do another route - thanks.

so hit this problem again - just adding as another example.

we have a load of members with an 'override' status that we now want to remove. Changing this by Batch Update seems the logical way. Ditto if we had a number of contacts where we need to change the Membership Status to an override state.

Way around is to export and re=import but seems messy.

Coming back to this.

Membership Status and Type are now available as Fields for Profiles, but they seem unusable in Batch Updates, as in, what I see is that while columns for that data are shown in Batch Update, they do not contain the existing data.

Would also be helpful if Join, Start and End date were shown, and ideally if any of those fields are 'cleared' then the remaining dates are recalculated.

Did you get anywhere with this?  I thought seeing Membership Type available as a profile field and available for batch update that I would be able to move a group of members to a new membership.  The column appears in the batch update but it is just a text field and doesn't actually seem to save anything?

This would be really great for us too. Is this discussed?

Another solution for us would be to make it possible to batch renew membership. Isn't this a feature that many would like? How are people solving this kind of issues if they have lots of memberships? Export and import? Their own custom solutions? Or payment processors and auto-renew?
