Dropdown list for organizations
March 09, 2010, 07:01:54 am
We are going to have hundreds of organizations in our contact list and it would be nice to be able to search for all contacts that are employees of a specific organization. If I go to Advanced Search I have the option to search via relationships but there is no dropdown for the organization, I have to type a name (partial or full), this does not clearly search just one org but any that might have that what you typed in the name.

I could make a smart group out of all of the hundreds of organizations that we have but then I would have hundreds of groups and am afraid that that would be unwieldy.

It would also be nice to be able to search for all contacts that have the position of 'biologist' in organizations a, b, and c. Is there a way to search on positions or would I need to make a tag out of each position that I might want to search on?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

I suspect your best bet in the short term would be to write a custom search for your specific needs. If you do so, please publish your code so others can benefit

I would not even know how to begin to write custom code for this. I will poke around and see what I can come up with. I also have a DC CiviCRM meeting coming up that I attend monthly. I will see if I can get any information there also. Whatever I find I will certainly share.

Thanks.
