Tell a Friend email not working

Hi, I'm getting errors on my "tell a friend". I have tried configuring sendmail, and smtp and both are not going through. I am using Siteground for a host. It seems that my registration emails are going through. I'm posting the sendmail error below. Anyone using Siteground and have any advice? Also, my outbound email tests are going through fine. But I have no idea what a Sendmail argument is and what it should be set at. Thanks for your time and help.


An error occurred when CiviCRM attempted to send an email (via SMTP). If you received this error after submitting on online contribution or event registration - the transaction was completed, but we were unable to send the email receipt.

The mail library returned the following error message:
sendmail returned error code 1

This is probably related to a problem in your Outbound Email Settings (Administer CiviCRM » Global Settings » Outbound Email), OR the FROM email address specifically configured for your contribution page or event. Possible causes are:

    * Your Sendmail path is incorrect.
    * Your Sendmail argument is incorrect.
    * The FROM Email Address configured for this feature may not be a valid sender based on your email service provider rules.

Same problem on a contribution page

I am getting essentially the same message with regards to contribution receipts. The contribution is going through via PayPal and I'm getting the emails from them but CiviCRM isn't sending outs receipts or reminders for recurring contributions.

I have tried 3 different outgoing email addresses 1) with my internet provider, 2) with my hosting service and 3) a gmail account. All are using port 587 with authentification. All result in the same message. I can send and receive emails on all 3 accounts.

Are these emails supposed to be generated by Civimail or is that just for bulk mailings?
