Latest (demo site) civicrm shows whole date when you select 'year'

Adding a custom field of type 'date' with format 'yyyy' it still appears as a full date. The new date picker is a bit tricky here too as it's confusing to have to pick a calendar date when you are supposed to be entering a year.

I just wanted to see if I could get some input into what the desired / expected behaviour is.

It seems to me that if you set the format for a custom field that should be the format in which the field is displayed but that doesn't seem to be the case - except for immediately after you have selected the date using the data picker.

Also, the concept of entering in a year format is a bit misleading. If you pick today's date on the date-picker the value 2010 is displayed but in fact the date entered is today's date. I tried to see how searching would work on this basis - i.e. if you use advanced search you get the year to show by picking a year on the date picker. You think you are searching for all entries between 2009 & 2010 but in fact you are searching for the entries that are between the specific dates you selected on the date picker in order to get 2009 & 2010 to show up in the search fields.

I'm having an issue with this as well.  I installed a new install of Drupal and CiviCRM.  I have a custom field recording the years that people were on the Board of Directors.  In the 2.x version of CiviCRM it would give me a nice drop down box of the range of years I configured.

Is there any way to turn the date picker off for certain fields?  or is the answer just to use and integer field for this?
