Black text on Black background?
March 12, 2010, 09:32:58 am
Hi--

I just took over as a db manager for a CiviCRM database running 2.9.9. We tried and failed to upgrade, but that's not what this question is about.

When I do CiviMail mailings SOME browser configurations display the mail as black text on black background. Has anyone ever encountered this? My first mailing I was using someone else's template, but recently we made some config changes and so I did a test to a small group just to make sure we hadn't broken civimail and it happened again, so it isn't the fault of someone else's template.

The test I did was typed right into Civimail. The plain text was Plain Text, and the HTML version used bold, italics, and line breaks. Seriously not complex.

Any thoughts on where the problem comes in? The one browser config I got feedback from clearly was from a Windows Vista user checking web-interface Gmail via Firefox.

2.2.9, I presume. :)

Ok, to make it clear: you send a mailing, the HTML part (upon sending) is quite simple, and some of the recipients see the emails as black-on-black?

Is there a chance that their default browser background is black?

If not, can you send (or forward) such a mailing also to <shot@civicrm.org>?
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

Sorry, yes, spaced on version (although our host finally completed the upgrade to 3.1.3!) I don't know if that will fix it...

Anyway, the thing about forwarding is that when the mail is forwarded, it doesn't come out black. I'm going to see if the next mailing (on 3.1.3) doesn't work that way and if it is not fixed by the upgrade, then I'll be back here...
