Having issues with Participant Listing
March 13, 2010, 08:15:27 am
In Civi 3.1.3, I have a role created with the following CiviCRM permissions (figured this out last night!):

1. access CiviCRM
2. access CiviEvent
3. access all custom data
4. delete in CiviEvent
5. edit all events
6. edit all contacts
5. edit event participants
6. register for events
7. view event info
8. view event participants

And I'm able to allow Contacts to edit their own event registration per the image.

My problem is that users can click on Participants and see a listing of all the participants and I don't want this.  For the Event in "Event Information and Settings" I have Participant Listing Disabled thinking that this would not allow users to list other participants, but it's not working as I expected.  What am I doing wrong?

I need to allow users to edit their event registration because it contains quite a bit of custom data that  is required for each Scout.

edit all contacts is a pretty large comprehensive permission that wil allow the role to edit all contact info

Any specific reason you are not collecting the custom data information in the event registration?

I do collect the custom data information in the event registration, but I still want users to be able to edit.  This is a registration of minors (Cub Scouts) for day camp and sometimes it's not the parents registering their kids, but a Pack Leader and the information they enter may be wrong.  I want the parents to be to correct stuff like birth dates, rank, grades, etc.

I think you are doing the school module and had I more time, I think what you're doing in the school module will be very helpful to me.  Unfortunately I procrastinated too long and had to put this together way too fast.  I'm not 100% I put it together correctly, but it's working for the most part.

I believe I need the "edit all contacts" to allow the parents to edit their own scouts information based on their role, is that right?

edit all contacts will also allow parents to edit all other contacts information

to restrict editing only their record and their own scouts, u need to use permissioned relationships and profiles

Hi Lobo,

I know you've done a lot of work in this area...is there some documentation or a link that you could point me to please?

I'm actually wondering if I should set up special profiles for adults and their scouts (one parent profile and one scout profile) and have all the customized info in those profiles and then set them up as a parent/son relationship in a household?  Then I'd need to figure out how to allow editing for the household only...would something like that work?

i think the latter module is better and more manageable and which i've done for the school module. you might want to use that as your basis. Based on your needs/description, i'd probably start with the school module :) (but i'm biased here!)

ping us on irc if u need help

for permissioned relationship, do a forum search on Permissioned AND Relationship

Thank you lobo!!  I appreciate your help and there's a good chance you might hear from me in the future once I really dig in deep here!
