is matching case sensitive with importing

I thought it wasn't but am hitting some missed matches where the External ID is eg XYZ1234 but there are some already in database that were Xyz1234

Obviously we can tidy this up in the dbase but if it is missing these, does it also mean that a match name on Peter Davis will not pick up 'peter davis'?

I think for few things like External Identifier is is case sensitive.
