Blank Install Page for CiviCRM 3.1.3 on Drupal 6.16
March 15, 2010, 10:05:45 am
I just tried to install CiviCRM 3.1.3 on Drupal 6.16 and when I point my url toward http://<my_site>/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/index.php all that loads is a white page.  I'm not getting any error messages.  Any ideas as to what the problem could be?  I'm new to Drupal, so I might be missing something that is obvious to others.  I uploaded the tar file to my CPanel File Manager and told it to extract.  Could that be causing problems?  All the files are present as far as I can tell.

Can you check your apache log for errors.

How do I check my apache logs?  I've been trying to figure that out.  I check the error logs through CPanel, but should I be checking them elsewhere?

I did a view source on the blank page and this is what the Web Developer tools gave me:

<!-- SHTML Wrapper - 500 Server Error -->

Any ideas what could cause this?  When I looked on the forums, it seemed to suggest that there is a conflict with another piece of software somewhere on the server or else my .htaccess needs to written in such a way to accommodate non-Drupal software in a sub-folder.  Is CiviCRM non-Drupal software?

This might be because of your .htaccess settings, you might also want to check your apache log for errors.

I don't have SSH access so I'm not sure how to check my Apache logs.  I'm not sure which change I need to make to my .htaccess settings.  I've found a couple of articles on drupal.org but I'm not sure which one would apply to me.  I have drupal installed in a subdomain with Wordpress on the main domain.  Could that be affecting my install somehow?

I figured out the problem.  I had my file permissions set to 777 for the url path, because that is the easiest way to do Joomla installs of software so I made the assumption the same would be true of Drupal.  I reset to the default file permissions and it is working fine now.  Sorry for the rookie mistake.
