Use 24 hour clock when creating Activities
March 17, 2010, 09:14:59 am
I always find it a minor annoyance that Activities must be created using 12 hour clock as it means having to use an additional AM / PM field, which would be rendered unnecessary by using 24 hour clock.

E.g. at the moment the Activity date is assigned using these fields:

[DD] [Mon] [YEAR] : [HH] [MM] [AM / PM]

I want the following fields instead:

[DD] [Mon] [YEAR] : [HH] [MM]

So no AM/PM is needed due to using 24 hour.

Can this be acheived through the CiviCRM admin, or does it require coding?

CiviCRM 3.1 has a much improved Date and Time input widget - you should check it out on the demo (or upgrade :-) ).
In 3.1 and earlier versions you can change the date format to 24 hour clock from Administer >> Global Settings >> Date Settings.

On the public demo:

Thanks Dave, looks as if I'd better check out CiviCRM 3.0

I just tried changing the date and time input formats on my installation (civicrm/admin/setting/date?reset=1) and that resulted in every new activity being dated 1st June 2010, plus broken calendar popup.

It looks as if there are a couple of bugs in CiviCRM 2's handling of dates, but the best solution for me is probably updating to CiviCRM 3.0.

Perhaps I'm being stupid - but where is the issue queue for CiviCRM? I would like to report this kind of stuff

They only take issues on the latest version but it's located here: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM?report=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.project:roadmap-panel

Then once you are in there you can see all the bugs for each version here:
http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM?report=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.project:versions-panel

You can see what bugs have been fixed in each version.

I definitely recommend an upgrade to 3.1.  As a billboard once said, "You've come a long way baby."
