Howdy, I am trying to upgrade 2.2.7 to 3.1.3 on a test site,

Upgrade CiviCRM to Version 3.1.3
Operating in off-line mode.

Use this utility to upgrade your CiviCRM database from 2.2.7 to 3.1.3.

Back up your database before continuing. This process may change your database structure and values. In case of emergency
you may need to revert to a backup. For more detailed information, refer to the Upgrade Documentation.

Click 'Upgrade Now' if you are ready to proceed. Otherwise click 'Cancel' to return to the CiviCRM home page.

 and getting the following error:

Upgrade CiviCRM to Version 3.1.3

unrecoverable error
    We apologise but there appears to be a problem, please go back and try again, if you still experience an issue please contact us for support.

    Database check failed - it looks like you have already upgraded to the latest version (v3.1.3) of the database. OR If you think this message is wrong,
it is very likely that this a partially upgraded db and you will need to reload the correct db on which upgrade was never tried.

    Return to home page.
This process is taking place in a test site on the same host as the live site, so same MySQL and Apache environment.

Environment is as follows:
CiviCRM:    2.2.7
CMS:        Drupal 6.15
MySQL:     5.2.6
PHP:         5.0.81


After the upgrade attempt I checked the table civicrm_domain the version field is set to "3.0.alpha1.upgrade" - prior to upgrade attempt it was 2.2.7.
I dont ever recall attempting an upgrade on our live database and would be very surpised if I had done that so am a bit puzzled where the alpha upgrade data is coming from.

I have dumped and loaded our live DB into our test site so I can run through the upgrade in a safe manner. I followed the upgrade steps http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+3.1 and Dharmatech move tips http://dharmatech.org/tools/index.html which prepare a moved db for a new location.

Double checked civicrm.settings.php and it is correct.

Re-downloaded and extracted 3.1.3 from sourceforge to be sure.

Downloaded and ran Dharmatech troubleshooting tools (civicrm_dbtools-1.2) http://dharmatech.org/tools/index.html and a lot of errors reported.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong or how to troubleshoot this further?
