Which method are you trying to install by? Using the component installer to upload the zip file or ftp'ing it across, unziping it and installing from directory?

If you are trying the first option then give the second one a go. There are some instructions here http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Install+CiviCRM+for+Joomla+or+Mambo

are you saying that you camt unzip the archive on your host? Check in Joomla system info to make sure zip is enabled. I'm sure it is otherwise nothing else would install.

Have a look at the upgrade instructions http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrading+CiviCRM+on+Joomla%21 but skip sep 5.

does this help?

Just a thought - have you tried downloading the file from the forge again to ensure it wasn't corrupted on download. Pretty unlikely but worth a go.

What version Joomla 1.5 are you using? RC3 was released over the weekend. You might try upgrading and then try reinstalling.

I had some issues installing on RC1. It was a while ago, but I think what I did was install it locally on a Joomla 1.0.13 installation, and then upload the files to the appropriate locations on my 1.5 installation. I noticed some buggy things with the 1.5 RC1 installation process in general, so I attributed the problems to Joomla more than CiviCRM.

I plan to upgrade one of my sites from RC2 to RC3 today. I'll post again if I come across anything related to this.
