Funding CiviEngage?
March 24, 2010, 04:00:24 pm
Hello everyone!

My name is James and I work for a non-profit that is involved in political advocacy and public education - we are currently in the final stages of development for our new website & membership database using Drupal & CiviCRM.

I recently went to the CiviCRM meet up in Boston and saw Representative Will Brownsberger present on his custom modules for canvassing and GOTV. I was also excited to read more about the potential of CiviEngage on the blog (http://civicrm.org/blogs/lobo/support-canvassing-and-gotv-get-out-vote-functionality-civicrm)

I saw that the community is currently fundraising to pay for work on this new module. As a newbie to the community, I was wondering if any of the modules have been developed as a result of fundraising efforts such as this one.

I ask because I have some contacts who *may* be interested in participating in funding, but I don't know how realistic it is or what the timeframe would be for funding or development.

Does anyone has some wisdom or insight they could share?

thank you!

the phonelist and walklist part are already complete (thanx to Progressive Tech Project). you can install it here:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviEngage+Installation

The canvassing and GOTV work needs to raise some more funds before we start work on it. We need to raise at least half the amount before we can commit resources to starting the project

A large part of CiviCRM's codebase has been created via various development projects funded by specific clients. This is the first time so far as I know that there has been a deliberate attempt to allow aggregation of demand for a chunk of functionality from a variety of users / organizations. I've contributed some, and I hope others do as well.

Thanks for your interest, and best wishes convincing your contacts of the benefits of this effort.
