Support adding "Sort by Postal Code" option to mailing labels.

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone would like to co-sponsor or contribute development time to allow sorting mailing labels by postal code. The US Postal Service requires items submitted for bulk mailing to be sorted by Zip Code and CiviCRM does not support this feature.

Please post here if you are interested in this feature. Per Don Lobo, this is about a 5 hour project. My organization will contribute for sure.

Request when doing anything of the kind: take internationalization into account? I expect we will be developing an interface for Dutch postcodes shortly (when we can get a customer/customers to fund)

we will do this for either 3.1 or trunk (based on timing of when this gets funded). We do not backport new features

Did this go any further?  I checked the OP's bug report link but that seemed to be for a separate issue.

No worries!  Thanks for updating it.

I'm new to the community-sponsored improvement.  What's the process as it seems there are potential supporters and I can probably get my org to put in some funding too.  Don't know what "5 hours" equals in cost.

Generally the cost is $75 USD per hour for improvements that are done by the core team & go into core - so about $400USD

hi guys,

any update on this point?
I have the same issue for Organizations in Argentina and Spain (basically Postal offices charge more if the labels are not sorted by Postal Code / ZIP). So the organizations feel very frustrated to have this feature (Mailing Labels) but cannot use it because of the lack of sorting.

I can contribute spending some time to develop this feature to the trunk (actually has to be compatible with 3.4.x versions as well) but I will need some guidance about which is the best way to implenet it.
