Installation Issues
March 29, 2010, 08:32:57 pm
Looking for some suggestions on helping to debug or get com_civicrm installed.

I previously, a few weeks ago, setup the install on a test site on 1and1.com shared linux hosting.  Everything went fine on that install.  Now, trying to install the app on the final version for the website I get a Internal Server Error 500...  Bad thing is that since I am on a shared host I do not have access to the apache error log...  So trying to debug blind...  Just for grins, I tweaked the Xml install file to skip the install.civicrm file and it does work up to that point and copies the large ZIP file correctly... This was expected behavior.  I assumed the error would occur during the civicrm core install.

I expected that if I had an error it would be a timeout error.  But since I get a 500 Internal Server Error I am not sure how to proceed... Any ideas or is it pretty dead in the water without apache error logs?  Why would it install properly a few weeks ago on another subdomain but not on the final domain?

try installing using the -alt version of the joomla installation package

and make sure you're unpacking the package and using the install from directory option

Alt version had the same issue.

Also tried including an error logging routine that 1and1 has on their FAQs...

only messages it recorded were:

Code: [Select]
administrator/components/com_civicrm/configure.php: 40","() Non-static method JFactory::getConfig() should not be called statically
This was in the log 3 times.

Surprise, surprise... I called my webhost, 1and1, knowing they would not share the error log with me and they did look thru the error log and determine it was a memory_limit issue.  They adjusted the memory_limit on my side and I think on the server side as well (as the local php.ini took affect immediately but still had errors installing) but this morning, after an assumed reboot, com_civiCRM installed without error.

So this issue is resolved.
