Batch edit of certain contributions to new payment type

I have a group of contributions, brought up in a search, for which I want to update the payment type to a new value just created. Is there a straightforward way to do this? The only action I see when selecting the records is to "Batch Update via Profile" - but this isn't really a profiling thing.

I think you can use "Batch Update via Profile" for changing payment type  i.e ( from credit card to check etc ). So basically create a profile of type Contribution and add "Payment Instrument" field. Then you can use this profile for batch update action.
