Suggestions to make easier to manage the bounces
April 02, 2010, 12:46:31 am
Hi,

Trying to make it easier to identify the bounces, what about:
1) Creating a new type of activity "bounced email", and put the details of the bounce received into that ?
Rationale: that would be easier to see if it's a really real bounce or a rogue out of office, and see if the bounce contains a suggestion on how to change the email (eg: new domain name, you can reach your contacts @example.com instead of @example.net)

2) Adding an entry into the history log "email put on hold"+description of the satus or something
Rationale: that's a change of the contact, should be in the log, and allows to know how long it's been on hold.

Can I create an issue and try fixing ?

yes, but can you please attach the patch to the issue rather than commit. we'd like to review the patch before it makes it in.

you will also need to fix the upgrade scripts for any DB changes. Please make sure your patch is complete and tested :)

I'll first put it on a live website.

Don't have any idea how to do the upgrade scripts. Will come back to you when I fill the patch is ready.

Good idea. :)

Add the relevant SQL changes to, say, CRM/Upgrade/Incremental/sql/3.2.alpha1.mysql.tpl so that they are run on upgrades to 3.2.alpha1.
