Is CiviCRM compatible with Authorize.net API changes effective June 30 2010?
April 06, 2010, 10:17:46 am
I was just sent this info about an AIM change to be implemented soon by Authorize.net: http://www.authorize.net/support/AIM_apiupdates.pdf

We have a live CiviCRM donation page using Authorize.net. What are the implications of the change?

From what I can see there is new functionality available but no change to existing functionality. It says it is an opt-in service

From what I can see the new functionality allows you to get some of the money if the card hits it's credit limit. E.g a transaction is submitted for $100 but only $50 is available. Instead of it failing you get the $50

Actually I think my summation is a bit simplistic. It seems more designed to allow you to 'reserve' the amount available & try again in a bit to get the rest.

The opting-in didn't sound optional in the email.  :)

Do I have to support the requirements?
MasterCard and Discover are requiring all merchants to support the requirements with the exception of merchants that exclusively process transactions via batch uploads, mail order/telephone order (MOTO), or recurring payment transactions. Your Merchant Service Provider (MSP) is ultimately responsible for determining if the requirements apply to your business, so please contact them for assistance in determining if your company is exempt.

Once again, these requirements will not be enforced for Authorize.Net merchants until June 30, 2011. However, we wanted to bring them to your attention now so that you have plenty of time to plan for their implementation.

For more information on the requirements, including how they affect our value-adding services, please visit our FAQ page at http://www.authorize.net/support/pafaqs/.

Just got more info from Authorize.net today on requirements from Mastercard and Discover regarding partial authorization and new requirements coming down. Included in the message was:

What do I need to do to support the requirements?
The steps that you will need to take to support the requirements depend on how you connect to the payment gateway. For example, if you connect using a shopping cart, point-of-sale device, or other solution, you will need to contact your solution provider to confirm that they will be supporting the requirements. If you connect using a direct integration, you should contact your Web developer for assistance. Please direct your Web developer to http://www.authorize.net/support/pafaqs/#do for information on the changes they will need to make.
Any insights on changes that will or won't be required with Civi to comply with these new regs?

authorize.net is a contributed processor by the community. Would be great if some developers using this can help and figure out what changes are needed and attach them as patches

thanx

In reading MasterCard requirements, it's for 47 MCC's.  Non-profits are "8398 Charitable and Social Service Organizations - Fundraising", which is not on the list

The list can be found at http://blog.vantagecard.com/post/MasterCard-requires-support-for-Partial-Approval2c-Real-Time-Reversal2c-and-Balance-Response.aspx

I wonder if non-profits can count on Authorize.net's software distinguishing among customer types.  I plan to call their support # and see what I can learn. I'll report back.

I'm a little confused, why did you say year 2010, Eileen, when the Authorize.net you quoted email says 2011?

Our merchants will now have until June 30, 2011, to implement support for the requirements within their systems.

Stoob,

That was my error, not Eileen's. The change is, indeed, slated for 2011.

A sister organization of ours contacted Authorize.net, who said non-profit exemptions are up to the payment processor. This organization's processor, Innovated Merchant Services, did confirm that a 501(c)3 would be exempt. Groups should definitely contact their own processors, though, before making assumptions.

We are a c4, and we're still investigating our status.
