Matching contribution to contact - how to associate by name/email?
April 06, 2010, 02:58:19 pm
I've imported a group of contacts and am now ready to import their contributions. My CSV file contains name/email info for these contributions, but in the dropdown for matching fields there are no "contact" fields of this type -- all the choices are contribution fields, meaning nothing to map with firstname/lastname/email.  What do I do with my firstname/lastname/email data and how do I ensure that the contributions are matched accordingly?

You will need to import the contacts first and then the contributions using either a contact ID or an external identifier

I see that email (match to contact) is an available field after all. I was able to use this for importing the contributions, which was more helpful than an external ID since I had some duplicate contacts in a large file.
