General customisation of civiCRM
April 07, 2010, 01:35:22 am
Hello all

I am evaluating civicrm on behalf of a charity in the UK. I have two questions about the setting up and use of civicrm.
A lot of the fields in the 'new individual' page will not be required. I have worked out how to remove the fields by creating a custom template
for the page in question. But I was wondering if this was the best way to remove the unwanted fields.
My other question is to do with searches and reports. I have worked out how to perform an advanced search on different criteria but I was
wondering is it possible to then save this search so I can perform the same search criteria at a later date. Also is it possible to save your own report templates.

Many thanks

Chris

You can adjust settings for what is on the view/edit forms at civicrm > administer civicrm > global settings > site preferences. other than that, creating a profile with just the fields you want and using that instead is the way to go.

to save searches you could create a smart group from the criteria and then always just search for the group which would return that criteria. there are details on this and how to use the search builder which you could also do here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Search+Builder

in terms of report templates (not sure if you just meant the advanced search again or if you're actually talking about civireport), info on customizing it can be found here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviReport+structure+and+customization

Regarding the Reports - you can customise the templates but if you just wish to do the same report over and over with the same selection (e.g. filter by X, show Y fields) that is just a front end GUI config - you can save difference 'instances' of reports with different settings and give  them permissions as well
