Importing Excel CSV files
April 07, 2010, 02:23:02 am
This was driving me nuts for a few hours importing an excel CSV file. It was skipping rows and miscellaneous items.

If this is the case for you..

Try..
1) Add a column of nulls after your final column.

Excel seems to leave off some of the final comma if you have a blank field and civi will miscount rows.

Sounds good advice - other option would be to have the final column as incremental integer and import that to a custom field - then if the import falls over part way through or any other bizarre behaviour it is easy to track where it stopped, sputtered etc.

I generally put an ID (External or internal) in the last field to eliminate any issues.

The key is not having any blanks in the last column.
