civimail just stops

I'm using CiviMail for the first time.

I get to the Upload Message stage (step 3 of 5)

Click on 'next' then I get sent to the http://www.centreforumstaff.org/civicrm/mailing/send page - but the screen is completely blank.

Is there something obvious that I'm not doing?

I'm using CiviCRM 1.7.9379 and Drupal 5.1

If you are planning on using CiviMail, you should download and upgrade to the 1.9 beta which we just released. We've made HUGE improvements and bug fixes to CiviMail compared to previous versions

A past version had a bug of reading "all the contacts from the db" during the send operation, and hence would take a long time. I dont remember when we fixed this, but this is fixed in v1.9 :)

I'm attempting to set up 1.9 on my drupal system but am having to wait on others to help me out.

I have just tried it on joomla (1.0.13) with CiviCRM 1.8.11536 again.

It crashes at a similar place, but at least I get an error message by doing it in Joomla:
