Other Amount option for events

My client would like to have the option of adding a "other" option to event price with a fill in box, so someone could donate an amount they want.  This would be similar to the option in CiviContribute.

Is this possible?

And for extra credit, they are selling tickets for $125.  If the value of the amount donated is less than $125, then you don't get to attend the event (but the money is put in with the rest of the money for the event for tracking purposes).

Of course, they told this to me today, and would like to have it fixed by tomorrow when they are planning on sending out an email about it. :)

#2 is not so clear but #1 should be possible by using a price set for the event.

You could sort of do #2 with price sets but you'd need to use the price set custom search to get your participant numbers I guess?

I don't understand how using a price set would allow the end user (person paying) fill in the amount they want to pay.  Is this possible?

Thanks Eileen for looking into this.

Two more questions for you. 

Can we do this if we are on v3.0.3? 

And in your example it looked like there were text boxes next to every option.  Can we just have it just for the final option?

yes - to 3.0.x & yes, the price set I used as an example already had two fields - I only added the last one. Check out the Floss Manual on CiviCRM for more
