Error - Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.

Fresh Joomla! 1.5.15 install. Clean, new CiviCRM 3.13 Alt install.

Receive successful install message. Try to click-thru on the CiviCRM menu-item under Components and receive the following error -

Quote
Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.
There is a validation error with your HTML input. Your activity is a bit suspicious, hence aborting

First time I went through the install, directory permissions were all unwritable. So, I went through and made sure all directory permissions were writable.

Uninstalled CiviCRM, reinstalled it again and still the error persists. I've followed the install instructions and all required settings are in place.

Several threads haven't seemed to resolve similar issues.

Someone mentioned in a previous thread about global resource URLs not being set properly during the install and they should be reset in Administer CiviCRM  >> Global Settings... Unfortunately, can't even pull up any pages from CiviCRM to try that.

Any thoughts on next steps?

Try this url:
http://<joomla_site>/administrator/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/admin/setting/updateConfigBackend&reset=1&directoryCleanup=3

Definitely a step in the right direction.

That gets me into the CiviCRM framework, but when I hit save on that page, I get the attached error.

yeah, there's a bug that won't let you save that form  (there's a hidden field that is flagged as required).

see this thread with links to patches to fix it:

Thanks for the tip lcdweb.

Unfortunately, I followed the thread through - http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-6051 -and nothing changed.

I added the suggested code to "UpdateConfigBackend.tpl", but it didn't make a difference.

No new visible field on the page, outside of maybe the "+" and "-" symbols and upon save, the same error occurs.

Strange enough, last night after trying this fix - if I attempted to save the form, I would receive the same error message initially reported, but if I went back to that page and navigated through the CiviCRM menu I could actually access different CiviCRM pages, configure the payment processor and even setup a few custom data fields.

Now, when I attempt to do exactly what I did last night, I can't navigate anywhere, and the database keeps losing connection, even after rebooting my server.

What is so different tonight? Except my diminishing level of hope - alas the roller coaster ride of open-source.

Update - I've been accessing the Joomla! admin back-end using Google Chrome and all the while experiencing these errors.

The moment I started using Firefox, I could access everything without error.

Interesting. I doubt that it was purely a Chrome issue, but I have been using Chrome quite a bit lately and notice there are definitely more javascript issues caused by it (in Civi and other sites). I've logged some of them as issues, so the next revision will have some minor updates to improve Chrome compatibility.

But as a general rule, FireFox is the "most compatible" browser for Civi.
