unsubscribe appears to work but doesnt
October 12, 2007, 06:02:14 am
I have a problem where the unsubscribe link appears to work but doesn't

ie.  if I check the groups tag of an individual who unsubscribed it says "remove(by email)"
however a mailing to that group is still going to the individual???

I am using a smart group for our newsletter subscribers with a yes/no custom data field defaulted to yes. The smart group is all contacts with subscribe to newsletter = yes

Im not sure if this was a problem before upgrading to 1.8 ( I assumed it was working fine)

Is there an obvious reason why this might be happening?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

We have done lot of work/improvement on CiviMail in CivCRM v1.9.  So if you are using CiviMail we strongly recommend you to upgrade to CiviCRM 1.9 beta.

I (think) I have the same problem, tested in V1.9.beta.11777

I also made a smart group for the newsletter, with yes/no custom data field defaulted to yes and the smart group are the contacts with subscribe to newsletter = yes.

When the recipient clicks on the unsubscribe link in the newsletter, and send this email (soap working), the newsletter reports the unsubscribe request is working, there is a +1 count in the report page and the contact is in the link, and the unsubscribe mail is send to the unsubscriber. The unsubscriber is also removed out of the newsletter smart group. This is fine!
Nevertheless:
the custom data group for the newsletter is stil yes in the contact page of the unsubscriber. It should be No!
Could that be the effect the defaulted data field is set to yes?

I think the next is not related:
When the unsubscribe proces goes trough soap the following cron error is send:
Code: [Select]
Use of uninitialized value in pattern match (m//) at ........../imap2soap/imap2soap.pl line 257. (..=root).I don't know the effect of this error, I can not find one..

the unsubscribe process will NOT change the value of your custom data. It will remove the contact from the smart group explicitly and hence this contact will not be part of your smart group (even though the custom data has a yes value)

imap2soap.pl is community contributed, hopefully the authors will respond to the message or you can get in touch with them directly

Thanks for the fast respons.

The costum data is always shown in the contact page (inline or tab). So a 'newsletter yes/no' setup form cannot set hidden by not selecting tab/inline. Maybe a feature request?
I think I wil make an ACL to hide the newsletter costum data in the contact page.
Or is there another way to do this,.. I will try some things.

I made a test with a fixed groep, custum data: group and yes/no newsletter setup, profile setup with group.
This is working fine:
Profile makes a fill in form
unsubscribe works directly in the group.
Perfect, wil make a setup and test the next days.

Thanks Lobo and msn for your quick responses.

Lobo/ I was going to wait a week or two before upgrading to 1.9beta, to see if there are any more issues that arise. If you think it is stable enough I will upgrade earlier for the benefits of the civimail improvements.

msn/ Thanks for you efforts. Yes the problem you describe is exactly as it is for me. Im looking forward to see your solution.

Mike

If you are using and testing CiviMail, we would definitely recommend 1.9. We've done a pretty extensive QA job and we are quite happy with the quality (so far!)

So i would give it a go :)

somewhat in lines with above
1.9 stable
The unsubscribe link on the bottom of the page does not open any thing
This is what it creates for a link
unsubscribe.1.21.45988.11c00bffd705663b34e7c00ae9ee25e3b3c14345@civimail.nationalpriorities.org
But if you click it (Outlook or Horde) nothing happens.
If I right click and copy then send to it it works.
It did work in 1.8
Here is the footer
To never receive email from NPP, send an email to <a href="{action.optOut}">this address</a>

I think that I am running into the same problem. When I run the imap2soap script, I get the following:

Code: [Select]
Use of uninitialized value in pattern match (m//) at imap2soap.pl line 257.
and this at the end:

Code: [Select]
Processed 250 msg(s), leaving the remaining 1796 (-n condition)
Is there any way to fix this without waiting for the next upgrade?

Thanks,
Julia

imap2soap is a community contribution and we (CiviCRM) can’t really support it (as we don’t use it ourselves). Your best bet would be to ask on the civicrm-mail mailing list and/or in the comments to the relevant wiki page.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
