Event registrations and organizations

I'm new to CiviCRM and trying to understand a few larger concepts.  It seems that when you register a person for an event, you can't indicate that they are attending as part of an organization - in fact, I see no place to indicate an org during registration.  Is this the case?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You can use a profile to add more fields, and current employer is the link to the org.

If you want to get the bigger picture on profiles and so on:

I don't know how to add a profile to an event registration form, but assuming I can, are you saying that the registrant would type their org name in?  What I want is when a person registers (after logging in), the orgs they are associated with are presented on the registration form and they choose which org they're representing at the event.  If they are merely able to type it in, I may get bad data if they type a different spelling of an organization.  I need to print nametags for all participants and their current organization has to be on the nametag.

Yes you can add profiles. read the doc online and please fix it if not clear.

As for displaying the list of organisation, it isn't possible for two reasons at least:
1) The list might be very very very long
2) That would be a privacy issue: not everyone is supposed to see what orgs (eg including the list of providers) you have in your db.

You might want to do something more specific than that and only display a sub group. This neads custom developments probably.
