hi,
the localisation and language changing is a daunting process!
i just want to change 1 word in the contribution page. where is says "Select Organisation" i want it to say "Select Club". is there a simple way to do this?

With a simple way I assume you mean without changing the language files  :)

You can modify the template, change the label for the field. More instruction on modifying templates can be found here:

You can also use the custom translate function. Check drupal/civitest.module.sample for a function called custom_ts. You can register it in a url similar to:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/setting/localization

The same thing works in joomla

The only issue with that feature is you need to ensure that the translation function is loaded for all civicrm pages
