Importing into the "Current Employer" field
April 15, 2010, 11:36:58 am
I have a relationship set up for employee/employers
Employee of (Organization)
Employer of (Individual)

I also noticed that there is a field called "Current Employer" in the "Contact Details" when you go to edit the contact. Is there any way that that can tie in with the employee/employer relationship? I also don't see an option to import into that field, I can import an organization into the "Employee of" relationship but I see no way to also bring it over to the "Current Employer" field. How do you guys usually handle importing employers?

Thanks.

Import the Individuals with a row for Organisation Name - scroll way to bottom of the field options on Step 2 and at the bottom you will see you can specify that A is 'relationship' of B, ie A is an 'employee of' and then in the next pop up selector choose 'organisation name'

Yes, I saw that and that works fine; however, it does not populate the "Employer" field in the summary tab while viewing the contact. Is there any way of doing that?

Very sorry for not reading your post properly. People often don't get the first notion of the import.

I think you will have to use an sql query to set those individuals to have the company be 'current employer'.

Yes, I have done that before, you need to create a query to populate the fields in the tabel civicrm_contact.
