Can't go to PayPal account when using PayPal Pro

I set up payment processing using PayPal Pro.  I set up several contributions and events using this payment processor.  If I go to the live payment page and enter credit card information, all is well.  The payment is processed by PayPal and the user is taken to the Thank You screen, and the receipt email is generated.

If I go to the contribution screen and fill in the required fields, like email, and click the "Check Out with PayPal" logo button, I am taken to the PayPal site, then back to the Thank You screen.

However, if I go to the event registration screen, fill in the fields marked as required, and click on the "Check Out with PayPal" logo button, I am returned to the same page, with "Please correct the following errors in the form fields below" and all of the credit card billing information fields are listed.  These fields are not indicated as required, yet I cannot get past this screen to PayPal.

I have attached the screen after I click the PayPal button.

What might be causing this?

This is a bug. :-(

I just recreated it on our 1.9 demo site test-driving the Rain Forest Soccer Tournament page:

Event registration forms should NOT validate against the Billing Info fields when PayPal Express button is clicked. I've filed an issue against 1.9 here. You can track progress on it (hopefully the fix will be included in the next 1.9 beta distribution).
