Configuring profile/group for newsletter signup
April 15, 2010, 09:33:27 pm
I'm trying to configure a enewsletter signup via profile and group.

It works fine but I'm running into conflicts on the messages a user sees.

If the group is set to "admin only," the user sees the following error message:
We had a problem processing your subscription request. You have tried to subscribe to a private group and/or we encountered a database error. Please contact the site administrator

If the group is set to "public," no error message, but the user must confirm their request by clicking on a link--something we do NOT want to have our users do--we feel it will only shrink our signup rate b/c people are just busy.

Can I set the group to "public" and somehow turn off the need to "confirm" their subscription? We'd prefer to keep the group public. Or keep it on "admin only" and get rid of the error message?

Thanks all!!

Same thing.

The messaging is weird.  Everyone gets subscribed to the group whether or not you click the confirmation button.

This seems to be a bug, but a good one as double-opt-in is confusing and pointless.  I'm just changing the subscribe message to a welcome message. I'm not sure if there is any other difference between the public and private settings?

Ideally, instead of choosing between public and private you would be able to choose which (or any) welcome message you would want to send.  If people want/need double opt-in, then have it as an optional check box.

@vanalive,

I saw another post suggesting double-opt-in applies if the group is a "mailing list", and singe-opt-in if not.

Hope that helps,
Ken
