Event participants-- how many are members?

Hello, I love CiviCRM, thanks to all who make it happen!

We're hosting an event that's open to anyone (members and non-members).  We're really curious to know how many of the participants who have registered are members and how many aren't members.

I know that the membership data is in a different table so it's probably not simple to get to.  How can I attempt to gather this information?  I have never made any custom CiviReports.  That process looks daunting.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could get this information within Civi?  I suppose I could do two exports and then compare the contact IDs in a non-Civi program.

Go to Search >> Find Contacts - Advanced Search

There you will find a section near the bottom for Membership and one for Events. You should thereby be able to run a search on all members who attended that event and also on all non-members who attended. You can then simply compare those totals.
