Help a newbie with a simple use case
April 19, 2010, 06:24:37 am
I'm under the gun on a deadline and floundering a bit with the vast number of options and configurations available.  I'll be happy to dive more deeply into the docs that are out there and expand my use of civicrm after my deadline passes but right now it would be great if someone can help me achieve something very simple.

I want a simple signup form where people can register for my site (I'm using drupal) with their username and password, fill out the basic default civicrm profile that comes out of the box and then select a few radio buttons where they can specify if they can volunteer for various tasks (passing out handouts, volunteering as a driver, etc)

Their answer to those questions (radio buttons or checkboxes) should put them in various groups so I can then contact them later to assist with volunteering.

I can get the registration page fine ( at /user/register ), but the second problem I have is that a user who is already signed in gets a permission denied message in drupal when they visit /user/register (and are already logged in ), so my second issue is how do people usually structure their 'signup' page to handle that case? In other words, a signed in user shouldn't get a permission denied page there, they should get a separate page, like some general information page or a 'tell-a-friend' type page.

I know that my questions are probably answered in docs, but I am just swimming in the amount of docs and forum posts out there, so if someone can help me out with this urgent and simple use case, you will earn a long, long time supporter and contributor.

thanks,
Cliff

The answer is to expose a CiviProfile on the Drupal register page. I believe that by default a simple profile should be exposed, but either way, the docs for this particular feature are here:

http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/CapturingExposing

or here:
