New MasterCard and Discover Processing Requirements
April 19, 2010, 01:44:27 pm
Hello!

We have received a notice from our gateway (Authorize.net) to the effect that there are new MasterCard and Discover processing requirements.

The brunt of the changes seems to be to allow partial payment for transactions that exceed the balance available at the time on a bank, ATM or gift card.  The new arrangement allows the submission of a second (at least) method of paying for any balance that remains outstanding after the first card is exhausted.

A call to Authnet further suggests that payment processors will be charging their customers if they do not participate in the acceptance of this new "option", which they are apparently wishing to make mandatory through "taxing" customers who don't want or need the option (like us).

Is there any scuttlebutt on CiviCRM's plans to interface to Authnet and other gateways in such a way as to handle such transactions?

Many thanks for an awesome platform,

-Joe

not sure i understand the use of the word scuttlebutt (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/scuttlebutt) butt here's a response :P

authorize.net is a community contributed processor. Folks who are using this payment processor might want to group together and help upgrade the code to handle the new conditions (if needed) and/or raise the funds to hire a developer to do so
