Is this a bug, or possibly something about the way the event is set up...?

Client set up an event with the option to tell friends. I happend to notice while cleaning up imported records that there was a duplicate record for a recipient of the tell-a-friend. Although she'd been imported with the identical email address 5 days earlier, the tell-a-friend created a new record for her (with source "Event name"). Any ideas?

We are not going to create new record at each time, we first check record in existing database w/ the help of contact matching rule.

If record not found in db than only we do create a new record w/ given data.

Here we assume your record data is of 'Individual' and we use 'Fuzzy' contact matching rule to find in existing database.

You might want to check/update your 'Individual' 'Fuzzy' contact matching rule to make it effective for existing contact matching.
