German Translation - contribution
April 20, 2010, 09:29:42 am
Hey everybody,
I'm working on the German translation for quite some time now, because we (http://ob8.at) want to use CiviCRM as membership administration and management tool for different societies and clubs.
One thing that troubles me is the translation of contribution with the German word "Spende". "Spende" is just a donation in the sense of gift. For our use-case most contributions are membership fees. So I would like to change the translation from "Spende" to "Zahlung" which refers to a payment in general.
I already did that once (a few months ago) but it was undone by someone else, probably this person is also here in the forum and we can discuss this issue.

Hey meuse,

not that I would be the one to discuss about, but I would suggest to translate "contribution" into "Beitrag" since this is the meaning of the word contribution. "Beitrag" also comes close to membership fee without being limited to a contributin of members. Maybe you get this change in translation through without being undone.

Greets,

Hello digitracer,
I'm always open to suggestions how to translate it better and i would also be fine with the translation "Beitrag".

Any other comments on that?

I think you’ve found this out already, but we’ve migrated to Transifex, where you can collaborate more closely (and have a per-language forum boards).

Note: This is not to say this kind of discussion is discouraged here – by all means please do feel free to discuss these things here – it’s just to give you heads-up (and maybe discussing such things there in German rather than here in English might be simpler for you). :)
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

You need the civicrm-3.2.1-l10n.tar.gz file from SF.net’s download page.
