Where to store individual professional adresses?
April 21, 2010, 08:35:57 am
I have a question about contact adresses and mailings (email or labels).

Contact addresses can be "home", "work", etc. Idem for emails.

When a contact has an employer (a relationship), the organization has its own address, which can also be qualified with "home", or "work" too.

Where do I have to store the professional address of my contacts ? To the individual's work address, or to the organization address (home or work, whatever)?

My problem is that if I store the professional address into the organization address, which is the more logic, I will not be able to use it in a mass mailing (email or label printing).
But if I store the professional address into the individual's work address, I will need to duplicate it on each individual being an employee of this organization, which is bad in term of data management.

Do you have any advice?

There is an item on the roadmap to extend the existing 'Use Household Address' functionality to more general address sharing. However it's currently scheduled for a future release:

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-4572

I think a lot of folks would like to see this happen sooner, if you can contribute a patch or hire a developer to make that happen that would be awesome.
