is there a way to add more then 2 profile fields in online registration?

You can add as many profile FIELDS as you want - but you are limited to two Profile Groups in the Event Registration page.

thats what i meant, two groups, will 2.0 have the option for more, the reason why i feel its important, this way you can group different types of questions into its own group.

There are currently no plans to allowing configuring of > 2 through the admin interface. You might be able to do this via direct SQL since the profiles are "connected" to the event registration pages through the civicrm_uf_join table.
