Default "Organization Details" profile for membership sign up
April 23, 2010, 09:03:22 am
I'm setting up a membership application page for a client, and have set it such that the applicant is an organization (ticked the box to say that the person is is signing up on behalf of an organization, and ticked the box to say this was required). CiviMember then appears to kindly provide an 'Organization Details' profile for the user to complete, but I can't see how to access or modify this profile at all, as it not listed in the list of profiles that are available to me.

Is it possible to access or alter the profile that is used, by adding in some custom data fields? Or is there some way to select an laternative profile to be shown on the membership form?

Regards
Graham

This is another item which quite a few people have requested & I think most of them have opted for hooks or hacks to deal with it. Probably if the people had put together to fund this going into core it would have cost less than the collective amount spent but of course people's needs haven't been in sync time-wise.

I don't think this is on any of our customer's priority lists at the moment - I don't know about other people.

Thanks for the feedback, Eileen.
Maybe I could suggest then that as part of the roadmap for CiviCRM development that the use of profiles right across the system be made consistent, in that they are all drawn from the list of profiles that are accessible to the admin user. This would greatly enhance the power and flexibility of the system, and I'm guessing would not take a huge amount of time given that the functionality to do this is clearly already in place.

Best wishes
Graham

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-6134

It's on the roadmap now although how quickly it gets attended to may depend on community support.

would be great if you can investigate and contribute code that does the needful. You can reuse a fair amount of the existing code and should not take a huge amount of your time

Apologies, Eileen

I realised I had submitted the post before I had thought through, and worked through the issue sufficiently thoroughly.

However I've now become aware of this related issue:

The membership sign up page, http://example.com/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=1 is configured as noted above to offer membership applications from organizations. The form offers 'Email address' as the first field to be completed (it is a required field), and is positioned just above the default profile, which is called 'Organization Details'. This profile includes a field called 'Primary Email', and is not required (except that if you don't complete it the form complains, telling you it is a required field). I can't edit any of this stuff, so cannot control position or visibility of either field (I guess I could probably hide the second email field via CSS). So I'm left with adding in lots of help info at the top of the form to try to help users through the thing.

This just seems to add further weight to my argument for flexibility here, enabling administrators and site builders to use the profile tools that are available elsewhere.

I just want to add another argument to set this issue (as I can't find a notice that this request has been worked on yet) on higher priority.

If the above mentioned "Organization Details" form is left empty civicrm only asks for the completion of two fields: 'Name of the Organization' and 'main company email adress'. If the form will then be left filled with these two fields only and this company does not exist as related to the signee due to the lack of information civi can't neither send a proper contribution receipt nor an invoice that would be tax reductable.
Is there at least a way to set the most important fields as required fields?

Edit:
Since for me personally the existing fields would be sufficiant another suggestion could be to prefill the details form with the data of the signees relationship to a company in case he has just one company relationship or even better by matching with email adress entered. Should also not be much of an effort I guess.

Hi re status - we are fundraising (via the Make-it-Happen  http://civicrm.org/contributeinitiative) to pay for the on-behalf of section to use a standard profile - it looks like we are 25% of the way there. We will be doing another push on existing and new make-it-happen initiatives for 3.4 shortly and I have a few ideas about things that would help out in the area of memberships - although suggestions that come complete with seed-funding will rise to the top of the list!
