hi,
this is a follow-up to a post made back in July of 2009: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,9094.0.html and I am wondering if this is something that might get fixed for a future release.

If you delete a mailing list group than all of the "sent" CiviMailings that included that group are also deleted. this results in loss of mailing history/archival information which is very important to the people doing the mailings.

would it be all right to post this in Jira for a future fix? meanwhile we will take care not to delete mailing list groups.

hey cynthia:

i'm pretty sure we fixed this. can you check and see if this is still an issue with 3.1 (i..e on drupal.demo)

i went and read brian's post. To clarify, the mailings are not deleted, they dont show up in the user interface (since the group does not exist). there is no data loss / just data hiding

Would be great if AFSC can work on cleaning that up and submitting a patch

hi lobo  ;)
i tested this on the 3.1 demo and got the same results: the sent mailing was deleted.

there was only one mailing that had been sent on April 26th and it was based on the "summer program volunteers" group. after i deleted the group i went to mailings, scheduled or sent mailings and the April 26th mailing was gone. i also checked under archived mailings and it was no where to be found.

glad to post to jira if you think this should be fixed.

I’m not sure whether we didn’t fix it or whether we fixed it (i.e., retain the mailing), but there’s no UI to display it; either way, filing an issue won’t hurt. :)

Thank you so much Piotr. I did test this on the 3.1 demo and the same behavior occurred: the mailing history disappears if the group is deleted.
