Platform: Joomla! 1.5.15

First of all, CiviCRM is extremely powerful from what I can see... so great job. Secondly, I'm trying to make sense of all of the terms within CiviCRM so I can accomplish what I'm after...

The purpose of my website is to be able to display Orphanages and Orphans within that Orphanage and to be able to allow donations & sponsorships (one-time and reoccurring) for the orphans.

How would you create such a structure? Is there some documentation that describes all of the features and what they do?
