Using CiviCrm and advanced Event Registration Scenarios
April 29, 2010, 06:14:29 am
Hi,

I have a few questions.
 - Is it possible to have a flexible and extensive event pricing scheme with multiple rates based on Membership, date of registration etc?
 - Is it possible to upsell memberships?
 - On-site registration capabilities?
- Can you list some examples of sites that use CiviCrm in this way

Thanks for any help,
Tom

Hi Tom,
Complex event pricing is pretty well supported with the "Price Sets" feature. There's built-in support for registration-date based (early-bird) discounting. Discount rules based on membership can be implemented using a custom module + "hooks" - check this blog post for some information on this approach:

http://civicrm.org/node/566

Membership upsell probably also requires some extension via custom module code. If you're interested in learning a bit about options for extending and customizing CiviCRM to handle your requirements - check this chapter in the brand new version of our online book - Understanding CiviCRM: http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/DevelopIntro

On-site registration can be done via the back-office interface.

One way to get a sense of different event registration examples out there is to do a Google search on the 'civicrm/event' - this will give you links to a large number of CiviEvent public pages and a sense of who's using it and how.
