Mailer Settings
April 29, 2010, 02:28:51 pm
I need some expertise in understanding the mailer settings in conjunction with using Gmail as my SMTP server on CiviMail. This page: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=22839

says I can't send more than 500 emails per 24 hour period. It also says imap/pop clients can't send more than 100 at a time, and I wonder if Civi would fall into this same category.

So I have mailings that need to go out to 900+ people. I need to configure the Mailer Settings page to work appropriately. Thus, I need to understand better how to harness the different options. I'm pretty sure I don't totally get the differences between Mailer Spool Period, Mailer Batch Limit, and Mailer Spool Limit. Can someone help me? Can you help me understand them in relation to my specific use case? I'll post up to the wiki and floss manual with my use case once I understand what to set these at!

Thanks much.
Emily

hey emily:

we are cleaning up and unifying the civimail screens for 3.2

you should set your batch limit to 400 or so (so other mail can also go out), and your cron job once a day

in general you might want to consider paying for a higher volume mail server. not sure what google considers as an imap/pop client
