Base URL with or without WWW?
April 30, 2010, 11:31:14 am
Hello all,

is there a way to make sure that all visitors to my site use either www.example.com or example.com? I am asking because my CiviEvents does not work if people use the one that is not set as my base URL. I now changed my base URL to www.example.com, hoping that more people use that than the one without WWW but there is no way of knowing, is there?!

Anyone ever had that problem and how did you solve it?
Thanks,
Tolk

I think you can do this w/ redirects in Apache config - you might want to search on that (both in this forum and in general).

If you're using Drupal, there's a part of your .htaccess where you can do this, it's well documented in the file itself. If you're running in a multi-site, you'd need to copy this part of your .htaccess to the apache config file for the individual vhosts, since they're different for each one.

I'd bet Joomla has something similar. The drupal method uses mod_rewrite.
