Using custom data (tabs) in profiles?

I have some custom data setup that I want to use in a profile, but it does not show in the list of available fields. Is this because it is setup as Tab and not as Inline?

Can only Inline data be used in a profile?

Tab data can be used in profiles. It works for me.
Are you sure it isn't there: some of those selection boxes work on "CD Group: CD Field name" and others on the rather harder to find "CD Field name:CD Group" sorting so its pretty easy to lose things.

I went thru every available option (contacts, individual, etc) SEVERAL times (slowly) just to make sure I wasn't missing it and the custom data is not there.

I created a test group and test field, and if I make the field Inline then the field becomes available, but if I make it Tab then the field disappears and is not available!

I am using v3.1.4 with Drupal 6.16.

Ensure that the custom group is not multiple record.

multiple record custom fields are suppressed in the profile

Yes that was it ... I had it set as Tab AND Multiple records! When I changed it to non-multiple and left as a Tab it became available.
