I love the custom search functionality!

I'd like to make a search that will turn up many event participations and offer the user the ability to batch-update the resulting participations. Is there a way to tell my custom search that it's returning participations (instead of contacts) so that the actions menu will have the available options that it has when I do an event participations search?

I'd be most interested in an answer that's generalized to encompass other non-contact search results such as contributions, etc.
