Is there any time where "participant_registered_by_id" must be NULL?

G'day.

It would make grouping participants by "Who Registered Them" if the "participant_registered_by_id" field always held that information. If the person is the one doing the registration it is now set to NULL.  Is there any reason it could not be set to their ID, thereby making grouping easy? (Sometimes there would only be one person in the group if they only were registering themselves.)

I can write a utility to "fix" the ones that are now NULL, but don't want to break anything by doing so.

Cheers.

When a group of participants come in picture, we carry primary participant id ( the main participant who register all group ).
and save as register_by_id for all other additional participants.

so It is logically easy to differentiate primary participant from additional one from group of participants.

Thanks for the response Kiran.

That would still be easily handled by testing if the Participant ID = the Participant Registered by ID.

I guess you are saying that the NULL is currently used and I shouldn't change it, yes?

IMO we should not change, it require lot of core code changes.

Hi Kiran,

I am happy to change only mine, with a cron job, but I want to make sure I don't break something else.

Would I be safe modifying mine for my needs?

Cheers.

Bobby

only updating null value w/ cron is not enough,
you need to test entire event flows to make sure you have not break anything,
specially when group of participants come in picture and we do need to process them.
