Successful install, then fatal error re session.php
May 03, 2007, 04:00:41 am
hello there, here's my little problem i hope someone can help me out:

I have downloaded the latest copy of civicrm here:
civicrm-1.7.beta.9379-joomla-php5 (part of an joomla 1.0.12 fresh install)

My (new) host has the following software versions:

- Apache/1.3.37 (Unix) PHP/5.2.0;
- MySQL 4.1.21-standard

I proceed with the manual install, ie, copying the zip file up and extracting through cPanel into a sub of the admin installer component folder successfully;

I then install civicrm - installation completes and tells me it is successful (all looks good from the backend) - then, when i attempt to go into any of the civiCRM menus from the admin backend i get this error:

"Fatal error: Cannot access protected property CRM_Core_Session::$_key in /home/agedcare/public_html/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/CRM/Core/Session.php on line 81"

 :( Now, i thought it may have been due to sessions unwritable, so i logged a call with the host who setup a writable folder - i check the listing of directory permissions through the backend of joomla, and it now lists the sessions folder as writable... hmmm... not sure where else to go - the host doesn't want to compromise his other customers that are all using MySQL 4.1, as i asked about using V. 5 but that doesn't look like it's an option.

I must be cursed - i used to host on a win server and (unsuccessfully) tried to install civicrm - i gave up.  lobo tried to help me at that stage, but it was too difficult.  I'd like to think i have a good chance at this with my new (non windows) host provider...

- has anyone any clues into how i might get around this please?

This is a strange error and have not seen it before :(

It is definitely a php error (and not mysql or sessions). You might want to check if your host is using a PHP Accelerator and if so which one?

The line it references has been there since early on and we also run php 5.2 on our machines, so not sure why your php is complaining
