blank screen or the index on install
May 11, 2010, 10:20:04 am
I've upped my max-execution time, upped my memory limit to recommended, but when I try to install 3.1.4, it waits a second or two, then tosses me back at the admin index.

no folders in admin/components or components, nor a menu item, nor is there anything in my error_log. I've found a few references to things like this, but everything suggested I've already tried. Any other solutions?

Interesting. I am having the same issue with 3.14 and Joomla and it kicks me out without installing. I have also tried a manual install without any luck.

Solved, my god. The issue? I think it was the file size, which I thought was fixed with the changes to the php.ini, but it worked FINE when I used the install from file on localhost. Had to unzip the install file to a folder, but it was clean and worked.

Joomla could use a couple more error checks, I think. Because a nice "this file is too big, try a local install" message would have saved me some searching.

From an open source project developer perspective, you might want to think of: "what can I do to help make this happen?" How can I help joomla improve so that other folks dont run into the same issue.

Filing an issue (on the joomla issue tracker) and submitting a patch would be a great first step, IMO

currently I'm working on "what can I do to keep this blank screen from coming up".

once upgraded, went through the database upgrade script, everything was okay for about an hour, but then now, when I go to the Civi menu, or any civi page, I get a blank screen, and nothing in the error log.

I've seen in the forums this happen to drupal upgrades, but I had hoped it was because my sqp dump didn't include drop tables. But in checked the dumpfile, it does.

Any thoughts?
