Move Paid Registrant to Different Event

I have a registrant for an event on May 15th who would like to switch to the May 22nd event. He has already paid, and I would like to add him to the 5/22 event, associate the existing payment to the new event, and remove him from the old event. Does the application support that? If not, does anyone have any experience making updates like these directly in the DB?

the applicaton does not support this directly

the easiest way would be to change: column event_id from the table civicrm_participant to point to the new event. I'm assuming your custom groups etc that extend participant are the same for both events
