Petitions sign on page
October 17, 2007, 05:31:15 pm
Hello everyone
I am trying to develop a petitions site in Drupal 5.x.  It is a double struggle as I am also new to Drupal.  However I managed to install civicrm in Drupal.  I am now trying to develop a stand alone sign in page and a report showing petitioners.  I have created a new profile but somehow have not been able to show it in drupal.  Any insight will be appreciated by Drupalers.  Thanks

Check out http://drupal.org/project/petition, however you will have to apply the Drupal 5 patch from the issue queue.

I wrote a little tutorial to help out with this problem:
http://civicspacelabs.org/node/17280

To display signers, it is easiest to simply link to a listings page generated out of CiviCRM rather than try to generate a Drupal page.
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Linking+Profiles

You can theme the listing page, but i can't find a link at the moment.

If you really want to display them inline in Drupal, you'll have to use the APIs
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviCRM+Public+APIs
Some Drupal samples of using the APIs:

Many thanks for your very informative reply.  I will try to digest it.  I first considered Drupal module "Petitions" but it is not supported for 5.x.  Another module "SignIT" is supposed to do the same task, but there is not a word of documentation.  I would prefer to use "Sign IT" for its compatability with 5.x.

You mentioned a patch with Petitions.  Will there be continued support of Petition?  Thanking you again.

No clue on the status of the petitions module in drupal. Since there has not been a 5 release, you can consider it unsupported.

The Drupal 5 patch can be found in the petitions module issue queue.
http://drupal.org/node/127808

This is only useful if you are willing to get your hands dirty with relatively unsupported code.

Thanks
I have installed Petition Module and have access to patch.  I have never patched anything.  Would you have info on which file and how to go about.  Do I copy it in the right file? or more sophisticated method is needed.  Thanks again.

If you've never patched anything, I would suggest sticking with CiviCRM profiles and listings.
